In 2022 Sara Upstone co-edited Community in Contemporary British Fiction: From Blair to Brexit with Peter Ely (London: Bloomsbury). Her contribution to the collection,’ Even the Ghosts: Community in the Wake’ is a hybrid piece of creative-critical practice that explores how contemporary literature opens up spaces for debates regarding social responsibility in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sara Upstone is now working on the development of a project with colleagues at Kingston University, Kate Scott and Melania Calestani, which will work with clinically vulnerable communities to create storytelling interventions into normative discourses regarding the ongoing experience of Covid-19. This project aims to create a toolkit that will be applicable to working with other marginalised health communities, while also generating new knowledge of value for thinking about how governments and health bodies manage future pandemics.
